How do I get to Bhutan?
There are a number of airports where you can fly into Bhutan from (Thailand – Bangkok; Nepal – Kathmandu; Singapore and India – Delhi, Kolkata, Bodha Gaya Dacca, Guwahati). At present Drukair, the nation airline, is the only airline to operate flights in and out of the country. Also, there are three land border crossings which you can travel into the kingdom overland. All crossings are along the Indian border only – Phuentsholing, Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar. All travel arrangements to Bhutan must be made through a local tour operator. A list of tour companies operating in Bhutan is available on this website. Your selected tour operator will make all the necessary arrangements.
Druk Air flights are now priced in local currency, but we have to pay for the tickets in US$ on issue. This means that the price fluctuates a little depending on the exchange rate on the day we come to issue the tickets, so our quote on your first enquiry will be indicative only. If you prefer you can book your tickets online by credit card and then the price will be fixed and you will not have to send us money for the flights. However you may prefer it if we issue your tickets as then we can keep you up to date on time changes and reconfirm your seats for you. Let us know when you come to book if you want to sort out the flight tickets yourself.
As Paro Airport is “daylight restricted” and totally dependent on weather, flights are occasionally delayed. Passengers should keep at least 24 hours transit time for connecting flights in or out of Paro.
Flights in to Paro are sometimes disrupted by the weather. To be prepared for such an event, it is advised to carry essential personal items like medicine, toiletries, minimum change etc.
